Soon after finishing my degree in journalism at City University, London, a job interviewer asked, ‘where do you see yourself in five years?’

I can’t remember the exact answer but it was no doubt something noble like, ‘bolding going after the truth’ or ‘going boldly’ – whatever felt right at the time.

I’ve been asked that many times since during my career as a television, radio and online journalist and later as a communications and marketing professional.

But never once did I imagine the answer might be ‘writing sticky content’ which is what I do now.

As a freelance copywriter I write whatever people pay me to write. Most of that is digital content for ecommerce – copy intended to glue visitors to a site and keep them there until they buy something.

I also write marketing and publicity material like blogs, email campaigns, guides, ads, corporate reports, brochures, newsletters, press releases and awards submissions.

I'm straight-talking and use no-nonsense language that got one of my clients a Crystal Mark Seal of Excellence from the Plain English Campaign.

I also train new PR recruits in how to write like a journalist and pitch ideas to journalists.
