Truth, power and prosperity: three major concerns from 2020
2020 will always be known as the year of COVID-19. However, the pandemic has overshadowed many other important issues that arose this year. Here, we discuss three such issues that business leaders who are experienced in digital will surely recognise. In doing so, we ask you to consider how your expertise could help combat them before they grow out of control.
Bubbles aren’t always good for society
This year’s most outrageous scandal has arguably been President Trump’s attempt to dismiss tens of millions of votes from US citizens to maintain political power. Perhaps worse, many senior Republican leaders either joined in or stayed silent.
Trump’s ability to do this with his followers’ overwhelming support comes from a four-year crusade designed to inspire doubt in a credible election process. In 2016, the Trump campaign learned that by targeting a receptive, impressionable core audience, it could get them to draw their friends and family into a bubble of disinformation. Using social media, it has indoctrinated supporters in its own alternative narrative.
