About this project

I interviewed the client and then rewrote his website text (home page, about us and pricing/commissions) to better match his client base and in an appropriate writing style. See below: http://www.jamessmithfurniture.co.uk/about

About Us page

Our aim is to create bespoke pieces of luxury furniture of the highest quality – exclusive products for those who love or collect distinguished furniture. Using traditional techniques and hand tools as our hallmark, we bring centuries of skilled woodworking methods, executed to perfection, into your home.

Our designs blend the undisputable elegance of the arts and crafts movement – defined by working with hand tools and solid timber – with the more contemporary techniques of today. The result? Original furniture with subtle curves and precision joints: well balanced and exceptional, fresh and functional.

In recognition of his craftsmanship skills, one of James’ exhibition pieces received a Guild Mark from the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers in 2010.

All our wood is ethically sourced and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified, upholding indigenous peoples’ rights of ownership and their use of land and resources. You can choose from exotic, eye-catching species or more refined British timers. Our workshop’s preference is for British timbers, which we believe are of unrivalled beauty. To see their wonders, arrange a visit to peruse some of our favourite species – Brown Oak, Ripple Sycamore, Bog Oak, Ripple Ash, and English Walnut.

Whatever your project, we provide the same careful, often painstaking attention to detail. Timbers are selected with care, so that species complement one another and to ensure continuity between different grains. Joints are cut by hand; door gaps are perfect; drawers fit beautifully.

We won’t cut corners nor reduce standards in order to meet deadlines. A fully satisfied customer is our priority. Delivering excellence outweighs financial gain.

Our workshop is in the Oxfordshire village of Launton, outside Bicester, and we have been making furniture here since 2010 – although James Smith Furniture came into being slightly earlier, in 2006. As a small business of just two experienced furniture makers, you can be assured of personal attention, good customer service, and guaranteed quality craftsmanship. We can do small as well as much larger commissions. We deliver on time and to budget, and with precision and perfection.

Owning an item of traditional craftsmanship is more meaningful than just buying a table. It is a sense of something real. Born from your idea, made by hand, and drawing on traditional skills and hours of care, it will bring you wonder and delight. Yes, we are more expensive than products from today’s commercial and disposable world, but we build to love and to last.
