Anthony’s incredible story
It was after returning from a school trip to Disneyland Paris in 2006 that Anthony’s life as he knew it changed forever.
After falling gravely ill at home, Anthony was rushed to hospital, placed on an ECMO life support machine and was given just a 10% chance of survival.
Anthony had contracted three different life threatening infections, suffered seizures whilst in a coma and his white blood cell count fell to zero.
With such a low chance of survival, doctors informed Anthony’s parents that they should prepare for the worst and begin making funeral arrangements for their young son.
Incredibly, despite his very bleak prognosis Anthony defied all odds to make a full recovery. To get to that point however, he had to spend seven extremely difficult weeks at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital re-learning even most basic functions, including breathing unaided, walking and speaking.
Not only did Anthony survive, but he went on to play a major role in securing a £7.5m charity partnership between Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity and Whitbread PLC. Now, he travels the world telling his amazing story to inspire, empower and motivate thousands of people each year.
