I’m a tea-drinking copywriter from Hertfordshire, and winner (mostly) of the daily battle against some pretty independently-minded hair. I specialise in verbal identity (brand voice and messaging) and conversational copy for brands that want to be noticed – throwing in plenty of creativity and strategic thinking along the way. As well as the unpredictable hair, I also have over fifteen years of professional writing experience across the commercial, public and charity sectors. I’ve worked as a freelance copywriter since 2017, and I utterly love my job. I work direct with B2C and B2B businesses and charities, as well as in partnership with design studios and creative agencies.

Since childhood, I've always been a creative, whether through music or the written word. Having covered Creative Writing as part of an Open Bachelor of Arts taken at the Open University, copywriting was a pretty natural career choice. With training undertaken at the Copywriters Apprentice, I think it's fair to say that I have learnt a thing or two from seasoned experts in the field. Add to that my experience working in journalism at the Jewish Tribune, a respected weekly in the Jewish World, and I think I can say that there's enough experience here to help you send the right messages to your customer! Did I mention that I spent a few years working part time as a support worker in an Independant Living facility for Adults with Special Needs? Well, I never really left that line of work, because I now specialize in writing content for the Health and Social Care sector.

“I’ve always enjoyed writing but I didn’t set up on my own account until 2019. At that point I had been teaching for nearly two decades and had become frustrated with the academy trust to which my then school belonged. I took a plunge and set up as a freelance writer.”

Jo Watson

“I wish we were all more honest when speaking to newer or younger copywriters and telling them what to expect in their career. It’s a hard job, it’s constantly evolving, and it’s still nowhere near as widely respected (as both an art and a science) as it should be.”

Abby King

“Let your work breathe. While it’s tempting to send over to the client once a piece is ready, I try to give it at least 24 hours (where time allows!) before I go back in, review and send.”

Sophie Lain

“My manager at graze told me to think about every meeting as money, so an hour’s meeting with five people is five hours of company money. Is it worth it?”
