Code Governance
How the Code is maintained, reviewed, and improved over time.
Professional standards only work if they stay current. The Copywriter Code isn't a static document — it's designed to evolve as the profession changes.
This page explains how the Code is maintained, who makes decisions, and how you can contribute.
Review cycle
Year one (2025–2026): The Code is reviewed quarterly. As a new framework, we expect to make refinements based on real-world use and member feedback.
Ongoing (from 2027): The Code will be reviewed biannually (twice per year). Additional reviews may be triggered by significant industry changes.
All reviews are conducted by the Standards Committee with input from the wider membership.
How changes are made
Proposal
Changes can be proposed by anyone — Committee members, ProCopywriters staff, or members via the suggestion form.
Review
The Standards Committee reviews proposals against criteria including clarity, practicality, and alignment with the Code's principles.
Consultation
Significant changes may be shared with the wider membership for comment.
Decision
The Committee decides whether to adopt, modify, or reject the proposal.
Publication
Approved changes are published with updated version numbers and announced to members.
Suggest an improvement
The Code belongs to the copywriting community. If you see something that could be better — clearer wording, a gap that needs filling, or guidance that doesn't match reality — tell us.
