Enforcement & Accountability

How we uphold professional standards through learning, reflection and proportionate action

This model supports a culture of professionalism, learning and trust, without becoming punitive or bureaucratic. Our approach prioritises reflection and resolution, reserving escalation for serious or repeated breaches.

All Pro and Pro+ members who subscribe to the Code of Practice agree to uphold its principles.

A clear public commitment appears on their member profile:

"This member subscribes to the ProCopywriters Code of Practice and is committed to professional, ethical and accountable copywriting."

The Standards Committee (or a designated review panel) will review complaints.

  • The member is invited to respond to concerns
  • The focus is on reflection, learning and resolution—not punishment
  • Where appropriate, mediation, mentoring or CPD may be recommended
Examples of proportionate outcomes
  • A request to amend misleading website claims
  • A constructive conversation about scope creep or undercutting
  • A recommendation to complete a relevant CPD module or ethics refresher

If a breach poses reputational risk to the profession or shows disregard for the Code:

  • ProCopywriters may suspend or revoke Pro status
  • Members may be removed from directory listings
  • In rare cases, a formal warning or delisting may occur

Appeals can be made in writing and will be reviewed by a second panel.

Each year, ProCopywriters will publish an anonymised report summarising:

  • Common themes from complaints or breaches
  • Lessons learned and actions taken
  • Any changes made to the Code as a result
