After spending years in digital retail I decided to go freelance in October 2020. Writing and editing copy had always been a part of my job, but I really wanted to make it all of my job.
Being from retail, I'm very experienced at writing product content, eg USP and technical specs. I also wrote supporting marketing and promotional content for products. As part of a digital team, optimising SEO was always a very important consideration.
At my last job before I went freelance, I was working for Homebase and Bathstore on a long-term project to overhaul their online product categorisation and navigation, based on in-depth SEO analysis.
Since going solo I've stayed within the retail sector, primarily writing customer-focused content for Wickes, eg more product content, website marketing copy, and specifically 'How To' guides, which are very popular in the DIY sector, as they help and advise customers on how to complete a huge range of home DIY tasks.
I've also been proud and pleased to help a handful of start-ups with their new websites. Working in tandem with my wife - who is an experienced UX/UI designer - we've created websites for a marketing company, a financial consultant, and two mental health support providers. I've been really happy to work on these challenging and rewarding projects, as they're such a departure from retail.
I'm really keen to expand my portfolio further into areas of personal interest, which basically revolve around nature, the environment, and the outdoors.
