Comeback Catz UX App : UX Writing
Spring ACT — the third-sector organisation behind Comeback Catz — wanted to shape a bold, empowering mobile experience through words. The mission? To help users push back against everyday sexism with sharp, confidence-boosting comebacks and a tone that says: you’ve got this.
Comeback Catz is more than an app — it’s a digital pep talk with claws. Quirky, sassy, and supportive, it equips users with witty comebacks to sexist remarks, while celebrating their personal wins along the way. My job was to make sure every word in this app earned its place — from microcopy, to tone of voice.
My UX writing approach:
I focused on creating a voice that felt cheeky but never trivial, supportive without being saccharine. The goal was clarity, warmth, and empowerment — making sure users always knew what to do, why it mattered, and how it made them stronger.
Key UX writing contributions:
Onboarding & profiles:
The crafting of clear, encouraging copy for the sign-up flow — setting the tone early with friendly prompts, privacy-conscious reassurance, and personalisation options that felt celebratory, not clinical.
Hall of achievements:
Every word in this section was chosen to uplift. From photo prompts to milestone labels, the copy encourages users to celebrate growth, not perfection. Think less “congratulations,” more “you did that.”
Empowerment tools:
Feature labels, error messages and confirmation states all echoed the app’s confidence-boosting tone. Whether scheduling reminders or deleting an entry, users were in control — with language that reinforced autonomy and ease.
Throughout the app, UX writing and design worked hand in hand. Playful visual elements met purposeful, on-brand copy — helping users not just respond to sexism, but reshape their own narratives with voice, agency, and just the right amount of sass.
