Founded and managed by two freelance copywriters, we exist to elevate the profession of copywriting, provide learning and development opportunities, and help our members showcase their skills, raise their profiles and find work.
We also run a two-day copywriting conference in Manchester, open to both members and non-members. The conference is the leading event devoted to copywriters in the UK, and it attracts attendees from around the world. The conference has featured high-profile speakers including Dave Trott and Rory Sutherland, and has been supported by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing (IDM) and the Content Marketing Association (CMA).

The people behind ProCopywriters
In 2012 two freelance copywriters, Tom Albrighton and Ben Locker, recognised that copywriters needed an association. They saw the challenges affecting them and their peers, the lack of cohesion and support within the profession, and the pressures from businesses that sought to commodify copywriting. And so they created The Professional Copywriters’ Network, or PCN.
Leif Kendall, a copywriter with 16 years’ experience, took over the group in 2016 (when Tom and Ben decided to step down), and continues to run the group and the conference with the support of a team of freelancer contributors. It was around this time that the group changed identity from PCN to ProCopywriters.
As we’ve begun developing professional standards for copywriters, we created a Copywriter Code Committee to help us make decisions and choose directions.
By creating committees of members we can gather more ideas and perspectives from the people we exist to serve – so you can expect to see more committees in our future.
