Be ready to implement data protection by design and by default

In the UK Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) are recognised as part of the Information Commissioner’s approach to privacy by design.
When the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into effect across Europe in May 2018 privacy by design will become a legal requirement known as data protection by design and by default.
Under GDPR Article 35 PIAs will be known as Data Protection Impact Assessments or DPIAs and they will be mandatory in some situations.
The purpose of the DPIA is to confirm that data processing is necessary and proportionate and that any risks are properly identified and managed.
