I’ve loved the written word for as long as I can remember.
Mind you, I’ve distrusted it since I misspelt ‘February’ in a school competition, aged 9. One missing letter cost me first place and a giant Easter egg.
I carried that love (and healthy distrust of spellings) into my first marketing role as a commercial copywriter for a leading Liverpool radio station.
Nothing teaches you how much brands like to waffle quite like writing radio ads.
Be short, sharp and clear or immediately forgotten.
Over the next decade and a half, I worked for several other well-known media companies as a copywriter, content strategist, head of sales and commercial director.
During that time, I realised most businesses don’t struggle because they lack expertise.
They struggle because they explain themselves badly.
That’s where my experience – and lifelong love of writing – comes in.
