Nordic Fintech Manifesto

Nordic countries - and their neighbours in the Baltics - have become a powerhouse of innovation in financial technology. A partnership between Fintech Mundi, a global fintech accelerator based in Norway, and Magna Carta, a UK-based fintech communications specialist, set out to discover what made the Nordics so dynamic, what could be learned from the region and what could be done to tap into the still unrealised potential of the region. The result was this report: based on desk research, extensive interviews with spokespeople across the region, we built up a cohesive story packed with information that Fintech Mundi could use to create a splash at its forthcoming industry conference.

About the project

Fintech After 2020 – what next?

Since the first Nordic Fintech Disruptors Report was published in 2016, it has tracked a region growing in scale, sophistication and success. There is no question that the Nordic countries and their Baltic neighbours are a fintech powerhouse. Start-ups, scale-ups and unicorns cover the full spectrum of technologies and services. Challengers have become established players. Ideas that originated in Northern Europe can now be found

in products, services and solutions around the world.

The region has all the building blocks in place to generate wealth and opportunities. Inherently open, transparent and internationally focused, the landscape is one of ambitious fintechs, cautiously enthusiastic banks, innovative ideas, and global vision. Capital investors, smart regulators, specialist accelerators, and even an engaged customer base are all present. The most important ingredient of all – confidence – can be found in abundance.

Crypto Currency White Paper for Contis

This was written at the end of 2021, when the crypto world looked and felt a bit rosier than it does at the end of 2022. Contis and its various agencies had attempted to put together a white paper on the future of crypto and its potential to go mainstream. But the first writers hadn't grasped the technology or the story, and had got themselves stuck in that nasty vicious spiral where every attempt to improve just makes it worse. So they handed it over to me. The initial plan was to edit it into shape, but it soon became clear that it needed a complete overhaul. We kept the initial research but not much else: we started again with story, text and tone to create a much clearer and comprehensive paper. The result was a very happy client, with a solid piece of content.

Financial Diversity Radar for findexable

Findexable is a global research and analytics firm on a mission to digitise investment in fast-growth and private-market fintech. Together, we worked with a global team of sector experts, NGO representatives, and data scientists, graphic designers, and PR consultants to create the first ever financial diversity radar – a unique combination of qualitative and quantitative insights designed to give women in fintech a voice, and find practical solutions to the problem of their under-representation. The resulting 100-page report helped kick-start an international conversation about this essential topic.

Post-Trade Survey Report for Meritsoft

Meritsoft provides a much-needed automated platform for the back office at major capital markets houses. It's a pretty technical and not especially glamorous part of the investment world that has been overlooked for a bit too long - as we set out to explain in this report. Using proprietary research as the framework, we built a three-part story that rose above the nitty-gritty of technical details and helped explain the need for Meritsoft's services while still providing the reassurance that the problem is entirely solvable. 12 months on the report is still a major piece of marketing collateral for Meritsoft.
