White paper for Cytora

Cytora is an insurtech with a difference - a difference they have occasionally struggled to articulate. With this white paper, we went back to basics: explaining what Cytora does and why it is different as clearly as possible, while addressing the biggest problem their clients faced (inefficiency). We dispensed with some of the more overtly creative messaging that had previously been developed, reverted to the CEO's preferred formal tone, and tied it all back to the daily experience of insurance underwriters, finance managers and operations chiefs. Head of marketing: "It looks really really good! It reads well, it clearly lays out the current situation, solution, problems and implications. I'm so impressed!" I'm banking that as a win!

About the project

By definition, the broker will not have the same level of deep expertise and nuanced understanding of a specific market as the underwriter. The broker’s product knowledge will never be as detailed, and it is all but impossible for brokers to have all the data points demanded by each of the insurers they approach, as each insurer has a different submission process and those data points change over time.

These are significant constraints. The inevitable consequence is that the amount of information brokers can practically include in a presentation that goes to multiple insurers is limited. From the underwriter perspective, this translates into data gaps that need to be filled if they are to understand the risk and underwrite it to the highest degree of comfort and security. In the subsequent back-and-forth to fill those gaps, efficiency is lost, and valuable underwriting resources are directed towards data gathering rather than data analysis.

Crypto Currency White Paper for Contis

This was written at the end of 2021, when the crypto world looked and felt a bit rosier than it does at the end of 2022. Contis and its various agencies had attempted to put together a white paper on the future of crypto and its potential to go mainstream. But the first writers hadn't grasped the technology or the story, and had got themselves stuck in that nasty vicious spiral where every attempt to improve just makes it worse. So they handed it over to me. The initial plan was to edit it into shape, but it soon became clear that it needed a complete overhaul. We kept the initial research but not much else: we started again with story, text and tone to create a much clearer and comprehensive paper. The result was a very happy client, with a solid piece of content.

Financial Diversity Radar for findexable

Findexable is a global research and analytics firm on a mission to digitise investment in fast-growth and private-market fintech. Together, we worked with a global team of sector experts, NGO representatives, and data scientists, graphic designers, and PR consultants to create the first ever financial diversity radar – a unique combination of qualitative and quantitative insights designed to give women in fintech a voice, and find practical solutions to the problem of their under-representation. The resulting 100-page report helped kick-start an international conversation about this essential topic.

Post-Trade Survey Report for Meritsoft

Meritsoft provides a much-needed automated platform for the back office at major capital markets houses. It's a pretty technical and not especially glamorous part of the investment world that has been overlooked for a bit too long - as we set out to explain in this report. Using proprietary research as the framework, we built a three-part story that rose above the nitty-gritty of technical details and helped explain the need for Meritsoft's services while still providing the reassurance that the problem is entirely solvable. 12 months on the report is still a major piece of marketing collateral for Meritsoft.
