White paper on mobile payments for NCR Ltd

I’ve written a couple of white papers over the past couple of years for NCR. Better known as the people that manufacture ATMs for banks and financial institutions around the world, they recently purchased Alaric, a British company specialising in payments software – which is where I first got involved. This paper is for the payments side of the business, looking at the hottest of hot topics: mobile payments. The text was based on a series of interviews, a bit of desk-based research, and videos that senior execs had done with industry analysts. I brought all that together, to create a coherent story about a technical topic.

About the project

With EMV coming to the US in 2015, all eyes
are on the new security features and anti-fraud capabilities that come with the new chip-enabled cards and terminals. That security also creates a solid foundation from which to launch a variety of contactless payment services. Now that Apple Pay has joined the mobile payments sector—and looks set to bring Apple’s game-changing reputation to the world of contactless mobile payments—this could be the year that transforms the US payments business.

Crypto Currency White Paper for Contis

This was written at the end of 2021, when the crypto world looked and felt a bit rosier than it does at the end of 2022. Contis and its various agencies had attempted to put together a white paper on the future of crypto and its potential to go mainstream. But the first writers hadn't grasped the technology or the story, and had got themselves stuck in that nasty vicious spiral where every attempt to improve just makes it worse. So they handed it over to me. The initial plan was to edit it into shape, but it soon became clear that it needed a complete overhaul. We kept the initial research but not much else: we started again with story, text and tone to create a much clearer and comprehensive paper. The result was a very happy client, with a solid piece of content.

Financial Diversity Radar for findexable

Findexable is a global research and analytics firm on a mission to digitise investment in fast-growth and private-market fintech. Together, we worked with a global team of sector experts, NGO representatives, and data scientists, graphic designers, and PR consultants to create the first ever financial diversity radar – a unique combination of qualitative and quantitative insights designed to give women in fintech a voice, and find practical solutions to the problem of their under-representation. The resulting 100-page report helped kick-start an international conversation about this essential topic.

Post-Trade Survey Report for Meritsoft

Meritsoft provides a much-needed automated platform for the back office at major capital markets houses. It's a pretty technical and not especially glamorous part of the investment world that has been overlooked for a bit too long - as we set out to explain in this report. Using proprietary research as the framework, we built a three-part story that rose above the nitty-gritty of technical details and helped explain the need for Meritsoft's services while still providing the reassurance that the problem is entirely solvable. 12 months on the report is still a major piece of marketing collateral for Meritsoft.
