After more than a year of development, editing, consulting and reviewing, the Copywriter Code v4.0 is ready for you to review.
First, here’s a quick recap of our purpose.
The ProCopywriters team recognised a number of challenges affecting our profession:
- people using generative AI and calling themselves copywriters
- companies struggling to hire capable copywriters
- qualified and capable copywriters struggling to differentiate themselves from amateurs.
Recognising that a professional code of conduct might help alleviate some of these issues, we began the journey. It went a little like this…
- Researching why professional standards exist, and what they consist of.
- Consulting the copywriting community.
- Drafting a rough version of a code of conduct.
- Gathering feedback on the first draft.
- Editing.
- Releasing a fresh draft.
- Consulting.
- Editing.
- Forming a Copywriter Code Committee of volunteers to help us edit the Code.
- Publishing the Copywriter Code V4.0
