I have worked with words one way or another for more than 30 years. I’ve long been fascinated by the way that people interact with, and are influenced by, the written word. The power of words to transform and persuade is my ongoing passion. I’ve studied creative writing and therapeutic writing and I’m trained to lead writing groups. My background is in journalism and I have worked as a reporter, feature writer and a sub-editor for various publications and outlets including The Daily Express, CA Magzine, The Mirror, STV, The Daily Mail, The Sun, The Daily Record and The Daily Star. Writing projects have included web content for new credit cards, website content for economic development, healthcare providers and charity sites, and destination descriptions for the National Trust for Scotland. I’ve looked after various content management systems, written bids for international lawyers, and created content surfaced as Google featured snippets. I’ve worked on clients’ business launches, rebrands and website redesigns. I live in Cumbria with my dog and youngest son.

Does your travel business have a story to tell but you can't find the right words? Do you have a blog page that is in desperate need of updating? Are you just starting out and want some landing pages that will harness curiosity and drive sales? I work with businesses in the travel and hospitality sector, creating web pages, blog articles, email newsletters, brochures, and digital marketing copy. I'll help your brand find its voice, and use it creatively to get your message across. Whether you need a destination page on a region of Malawi, a blog article on how to prepare for a trek in the Peruvian Andes, or want to add a touch of magic to some hotel accommodation listings in Rome, I'm here to help. If you're a start-up or are looking at rebranding, I can also work with you on tone of voice and content strategy to support your business objectives. I began working in the travel industry 20 years ago and have seen it from all angles thanks to roles in sales, marketing, operations, and content management. For the last 10 years I've also been a travel blogger, working with tour operators, accommodation providers, tourist boards, and gear suppliers to create content and promote their brands. My work has won several travel writing competitions, and it's experience like this that I can use to make your own company stand out from the crowd. I'm based in the beautiful English Lake District, but my clients come from all corners of the world so I'm experienced working internationally, and am comfortable writing in UK, US, or AU English. No matter how big your project, get in touch so we can come up with a world-conquering plan.

“I am at my best in the morning, so I try to schedule all creative tasks before lunch. If I’m struggling in the morning, I use the classic strategies of changing where I’m working from, taking a break, or exercising in the hope of a Eureka moment.”

Declan Morton, Copywriter.Declan Morton

“I’ve always enjoyed writing but I didn’t set up on my own account until 2019. At that point I had been teaching for nearly two decades and had become frustrated with the academy trust to which my then school belonged. I took a plunge and set up as a freelance writer.”

Jo Watson

“I wish we were all more honest when speaking to newer or younger copywriters and telling them what to expect in their career. It’s a hard job, it’s constantly evolving, and it’s still nowhere near as widely respected (as both an art and a science) as it should be.”

Abby King

“Let your work breathe. While it’s tempting to send over to the client once a piece is ready, I try to give it at least 24 hours (where time allows!) before I go back in, review and send.”
