I was asked to research and write a public-sector category bid for the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Marketing Excellence Awards 2018.
The award focussed on the 2016-2017 recruitment and enrolment campaign and the innovative ‘Journey’ creative of a Marketing team in education. The work involved pulling together 35 different documents and various sources of evidence; the shortlist is to be announced in January 2018.

Focus Awards is an innovative Awarding Organisation, whose CEO always tries to 'push the envelope' within the sector.
He came up with the idea of a Price Plan for training providers and centres that would 'smooth out' their cashflow by creating monthly payment plans. My task was to make the plans attractive to clients and get across the advantages of budgeting.
I've shown the original first draft text. Several changes were accommodated through the development cycle, the most significant of which was to remove the fear of competitor fallout and a potential resultant 'feud'. While it substantially weakened the purpose of the document, the Client was insistent and accepted the explained reduced impact of the copy as a palatable trade-off.

Facial reconstruction is one of the most important fields in modern medicine, and its history stretches back to the 17th century and the work of Gaspare Tagliacozzi.
JDR is a huge British success story. Within its niche, it is a true market leader, providing essential cabling and power lines to offshore energy installations around the world. For this brochure, the marketing team anted to elevate the text beyond the tech spec level and create a real story around the company and its strengths. The first step was to develop messaging to do that. The next was to plan this brochure to get those messages across in an audience friendly fashion. Once written up, the designers worked their magic, and we turned to brochure number two...
The client required 150 descriptions of different luxury cars available to hire. Aston Martin, Mercedes, Jaguar, Porsch, Lamborghini, to name a few, all had to a have simple and stylish treatment within about a 150 to 180 word count.

As Northamptonshire accountants, our clients cherish our relationship, not just because of our range of services. They also appreciate the way we work. They see us, not so much as accountants to meet with once a year to ‘go over’ the accounts. For our clients, they value the feeling of friendship.
Like any good friends, of course, we won’t just say ‘well done’ when everything is rosy. We’ll also be at your side with friendly, knowledgeable advice when things are not going so well.

Rosling King is a leading firm of lawyers in the City of London. Their advice is high-level, for major clients in finance, real estate and construction, but their approach is refreshingly down-to-earth. My job in Browns’ rebranding of the practice was to express this unusually warm, easygoing nature and its part in the development of uncommonly effective solutions.

Katie is an expert chocolatier who hand-makes artisan chocolates using the finest couvertures and a range of exotic ingredients.
She wanted a story that would explain the origins of her business, set out her brand values and communicate her love for the art of chocolate-making.
Our writing aims to combine narrative clarity and personal emotion, while using synaesthetic language to evoke the deep sensual appeal of Katie’s chocolates.
