Fearless freelance copywriting. I write for businesses in Bristol and beyond, covering everything from content strategies for global technology companies and FCA-compliant brochures for financial services, to blogging for sports, energy and education organisations. Most importantly, I write words that connect with people and get results.

I am a copywriter and magazine editor who has worked across multiple industries over the past 15+ years. A fully NCTJ-qualified journalist, I trained at the Press Association in London before moving on to edit numerous B2B trade publications in various roles, including at award-winning contract publisher Archant Dialogue. Now, I offer freelance writing, editing and proofreading services in partnership with my friend and former colleague Jonathan under the banner of WD Editorial. Our major specialisms lie in transforming complex, niche industry expertise into digestible content appropriate for both broad and specialist audiences. Such content includes ghost-written thought leadership articles, blogs, press releases, white papers, annual/ESG reports, website copy and more. We are responsive, flexible and candid in the way we work. Since starting out in the freelance world in 2021, we have completed well over 2,000 assignments for businesses, marketing/PR agencies and publishing houses. The sectors we cover include technology, sustainability, energy, construction, facilities management, finance, manufacturing, healthcare and travel, among others. Find out more by dropping me an email or heading to the WD website, where you will find a limited portfolio of work. Due to the nature of the work we complete, the vast majority we are unable to share publicly. Get in touch and we'll happily find you the most relevant examples. ✅ “The quality of the writing is excellent, copy was provided on time and overall, we found them to be excellent value for money.” – Mark Risley, former Head of Marketing & Communications, Energy Industries Council

No fuss, no gimmicks, just smart, practical marketing that delivers. Want to get more from your marketing? Let’s talk.

With more than fifteen years of experience as a journalist, editor and copywriter, I enjoy getting to grips with complex subjects and finding clear and compelling ways to engage audiences with them. I work with clients to write blogs, web pages, long-form articles, booklets and white papers, as well as create reports, guides and presentations. I’ve written B2B content for large tech companies such as Microsoft, Cisco, and Schneider Electric to help convey their position as thought leaders in areas including AI, sustainable energy and internet services. Within journalism, I’ve worked in senior staff roles for specialist trade magazines and written features for UK national newspapers like the Guardian and the Sunday Telegraph. Topics I’ve covered include government, healthcare, the built environment, and culture. ________________________________ "Having worked with Jonathan for many years, I highly value his discerning, efficient and reliable writing capabilities." — Phil Rigg, Editorial Director at MRM UK "Jonathan has consistently delivered high quality content on complex topics, driving organic traffic well above our benchmark." — Romain Adde, Marcom Manager for Power Systems and Services at Schneider Electric

My style is informal and witty. Some may say irreverent. But at least it's never 'corporatey', jargon-filled or vanilla-flavoured. I could be described as a marketing all-rounder. I've worked in the industry for over thirty years, with stints in various ad agencies, as a media buyer on client side, as a press officer and even a print buyer. In the last twenty years I've settled for my first love: writing. First in-house and now as a freelancer. I work with a range of clients, from creative design agencies, SEO consultants and web developers, to multinationals and SMEs. But I especially like working for clients who give me free stuff. I live in London, like to run and have a season ticket at Arsenal. I also have a quirky sense of humour. (Those last two statements may be related.)

Choosing just the right external consultant isn’t easy. On paper – or rather, on the web – freelance professionals might all seem alike. Maybe deep down you’re even thinking, “One’s as good as any other.” I’m different though. If there’s something I’m particularly proud of, it’s having sat on opposite sides of the desk. As an Italian copywriter I write marketing and advertising copy in my native Italian from scratch, but as a transcreation specialist I translate-adapt it from English and German to Italian. As a translator I translate press releases, but when I used to be a freelance publicist, I would write them. And as an interpreter I translate live for journalists at press conferences, but I first attended those kinds of press conference as a journalist. Confused yet? Watch this 90 second video and you’ll get why I call myself an Italian communications all-rounder. What I can do for you when it comes to marketing and advertising • Origination: I can create marketing and advertising copy in Italian, my mother tongue. • Transcreation: I can adapt your advertising and marketing copy from English or German into Italian so that it will not read like a translation – you want to have an impact on the Italian market! I am Italian, I live in Italy, I know how Italians think and what works for them. • Cultural consultation: I can analyse the elements in your advertising and marketing strategy (e.g. brand name, product name, creative idea) and advise on potential cultural challenges. Not sure what transcreation is and why you need it? Check out my presentation at the University of Westminster: Why should you hire me? • Versatility: I cater to all your needs, shifting easily and smoothly between different types of copy and industries. • Promptness: You can get in touch by phone or email around the clock. • Track record: My work for global brands regularly appears on television, magazines and advertising spaces in the form of TV commercials, print ads and billboards.

Hi, I’m Carys, the founder of This Girl Talks. My career has been shaped by a passion for communication, storytelling, and service. Beyond my professional work, I volunteer with Mountain Rescue, responding to emergencies in some of the UK’s most challenging environments, and serve as a Magistrate, making decisions that help shape and support my local community. I spent 8 years working in professional sport, a fast-paced, high-pressure world that taught me the importance of clarity and connection in communication. From there, I embarked on a remarkable 16-year career with the Royal Family, crafting speeches, briefings, and video messages for His Majesty King Charles III and the Prince and Princess of Wales. This experience sharpened my skills in creating impactful, polished content for a wide range of audiences and occasions. Now, through This Girl Talks, I’m bringing my expertise to businesses and brands, offering services in copywriting, blogging, and social media content creation. Whether you’re looking to connect with your audience, share your story, or elevate your brand, I’m here to help make your words work harder for you. Let’s create something extraordinary together!
